There are a lot of people who don't save and spend more than they earn- as the economic meltdown affects a lot of people, we should start to do what we know we should do to manage our finances.
As new year comes we tend to do or make some resolutions about our finances. The worst problem is our behaviour- resolutions are not taken seriously , when we make resolutions about money it really don't match our philosophy and who we are. If you want to get things on the right track, be fully committed.
Here are some points to remember to keep your resolutions
a) Be realistic- if it is a resolution, it is probably at odds with what we have been doing or beleiving until now. If you believe adding to your credit card debt will hurt you, then it is going to be difficult to stop adding to it.. Instead of saying you will never put anything else on your credit card.
b) Deal with yourself first - If making decisions about money makes you uncomfortable, you need to figure out the reason. Otherwise you probably will not follow through on your resolution until you have wrestled with your emotions.
c) Face up to the two biggest obstacle to change ( shame and ambivalence) - Shame is associated with not handling finances well while ambivalence comes about from the notion that to do better with money you will have to deprive yourself of something.
How do you move forward- check yourself against these three steps needed to make a change in behaviour ; your goal must be important, you must be confident you can reach it and you must be ready
